Parliamentarian Ranil Wickremesinghe has requested an adjournment debate after the commencement of Parliamentary proceedings on January 18 for the first time since the New Year.
He has made this request to the Speaker and the Leader of the House.
Mr. Wickremesinghe has made this written request asking to agree to an adjournment debate by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa in Parliament under Article 33 (a) of the Constitution.
He also reminded that this has been the practice of the Parliament since the enactment of the 1978 Constitution.
After the adjournment of Parliament, Committee on Parliamentary Business is dissolved.
Therefore, Mr. Wickremasinghe requested to consult the party leaders and set the dates for this adjournment debate to be on January 19, 20, and if necessary, 21st January 2022.
