It is reported that the Sri Lanka Standards Institution and the Consumer Affairs Authority have taken gas samples today to verify the gas quality of two ships owned by Litro which are currently anchored in the Kerawalapitiya sea.
Meanwhile, the State Ministry of Consumer Affairs has instructed Litro and Laugh to distribute gas cylinders only in accordance with the recent order of the Court of Appeal.
The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has recently suspended the unloading of two gas tankers imported by Litro Gas after it was found to be substandard.
This is because the ethyl mercaptan chemical that emits the odor of those gases does not conform to local standards.
However, the technical committee, including the Sri Lanka Standards Institution, later inspected the second gas tanker and instructed that the chemical level be increased.
Accordingly, the Secretary to the Ministry of Technology had approved the landing of gas tanks on the ship to Sri Lanka.
Litro Gas said it will begin distributing the ship’s gas to dealers across the island from today.
Litro says they will receive reports on whether ships that have taken gas samples will be approved or not.
Meanwhile, 23 gas accidents have been reported to the police in the last 24 hours ending at 6 this morning.
