Power outages are reported in many parts of the island.
The Ministry of Power and Energy states that the reason for the power outage in many parts of the island is a breakdown in the transmission lines carrying electricity from the Kotmale substation to the Biyagama substation.
It is said that due to this the power generation from the Mahaweli power plants has stopped.
The Ministry of Power and Energy stated that work is underway to rehabilitate it.
It is reported that there are power outages in Maharagama, Homagama and Padukka areas in the Colombo, Ingiriya in the Kalutara, Gampaha, Galle, Matara, Kandy and Polonnaruwa districts.
