India to help Sri Lanka in uplifting the quality of railway services

Minister of Transport Pavithra Wanniarachchi held a special meeting with Indian High Commissioner Gopal Bagle this morning (26) at the Indian High Commissioner’s official residence on improving the quality of railway services in the Sri Lankan transport sector.

The Minister briefed the Indian High Commissioner on the ongoing projects under Indian loan assistance.

High Commissioner Gopal Bagle said that the Indian Railways was established in 1850 and has now adopted the world’s most advanced technology for Indian Railways.

The High Commissioner emphasized that the Government of India is ready to provide this technology at any time to uplift the railway service in Sri Lanka.

The Indian High Commissioner agreed to train Sri Lankan locomotive drivers at the Indian Train Driving Training Center, as a large number of Indian locomotives and carriages are currently in use especially in Sri Lanka.

Commenting on this, Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi said that she appreciated the support given by the Government of India during her tenure as the Minister of Health.

She, as a minister, also thanked the Government of India for its continued support to Sri Lanka on the basis of the long standing friendship between Sri Lanka and India.

Therefore, the Government of India will continue to support the development of the transport service in Sri Lanka in the future.
