The Ministry of Education is considering extending school hours by one hour or holding schools on Saturdays to teach missed lessons due to the closure of schools due to Covid.
Secretary to the Ministry of Education Prof. Kapila Perera states that several preliminary discussions have been held in this regard.
The Secretary states that since children missed 40 percent of the lessons last year and 60 percent this year, there is a need for a program to cover the most essential subjects and various suggestions will be made in this regard.
With the commencement of classes above grade five in the future, it is being planned to cover the subjects that have been missed in the past within 100 days, he said.
Accordingly, he added that he hopes to cover all the missed lessons by March next year.
