Police Special Task Force (STF) intelligence officers have arrested a couple who were preparing to fraudulently sell a non-negotiable one Million Euro souvenir money note for Rs. 1.5 million.

The couple was arrested near the Dematagoda flyover last evening while preparing for a transaction, the STF said.

The woman is a resident of Wellampitiya and she is in her 50s. The man is a 48 year old resident of Kotugoda.

Investigations have revealed that the note was given for them to sell by a resident of Batticaloa. It is also said that this note is a commemorative note and has no value of the kind mentioned in it.

The suspects have been handed over to the Dematagoda Police Station for further investigations.

The raid was carried out by STF OIC Chief Inspector Nadeeka Silva on the instructions of STF Commander DIG Waruna Jayasundara after receiving information from the SL Air Force intelligence unit.
