Afghanistan is facing a severe food crisis – People are selling their property for food

0

Afghanistan, which has been under Taliban control, is facing a severe food crisis and many are reportedly selling their property to buy food.

The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) has warned of a possible famine in Afghanistan by the end of this year.

According to the World Food Program, more than half of Afghanistan’s population, or 22.8 million people, is suffering from severe food shortages. Meanwhile, the World Food Program points out that 3.2 million children under the age of 5 are severely malnourished.

Following the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan last August, many Western countries, including the United States, have taken steps to suspend supplying aid.

Accordingly, Afghanistan, which relies on foreign aid for 40% of its GDP, is currently facing a severe recession.

As a result, many public servants have not received their salaries for months, and others have been tempted to buy food by selling their property.

The current situation is likely to worsen in the future, according to foreign reports.
