Ishini Wickremasinghe, the Director General of the National Zoological Gardens has resigned.
Sources said that her resignation was due to a problem regarding the elephants in the care of the zoo.
Ishini Wickremasinghe is the daughter of the brother of former Prime Minister and UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.
