SL Paralympic champions are honored with massive cash prizes

The Cabinet has approved the awarding of cash prizes proposed by the Ministry of Sports to the two athletes who participated in the Tokyo Paralympic Games and brought glory to the country.

A statement issued by the Cabinet Secretariat states:

“Dinesh Priyantha Herath won the gold medal with a new world record in the men’s javelin throw event in the F46 category at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, while Samitha Dulan Kodithuwakku won the bronze medal in the men’s javelin event in the F64 category. They have given remarkable achievements to the motherland. The National Sports Council established under the provisions of the Sports Act No. 25 of 1973 has recommended the criteria for awarding cash prizes and prize money for international sports competitions.Accordingly, the Cabinet approved the proposal made by the Minister of Youth and Sports to award cash prizes to the two athletes who brought glory to the nation and their two coaches as recommended by the National Sports Council.”

According to the Ministry of Sports, it has been recommended to give a prize of Rs. 50 million to Dinesh Priyantha and Rs. 20 million to Dulan Kodithuwakku. In addition, it was decided to give 25 percent of the prize money to the coaches of these players.
