The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) has decided to be banned as a terrorist organization under the UK Terrorism Act.

The Sri Lankan government has been informed by the Sri Lankan Home Secretary in UK that this has been decided, the Ministry of External Affairs said.

It is prohibited under the UK Terrorism Act No. 7 of 2000.

The decision of the Home Secretary has been announced following the decision of the United Nations Appeals Commission (POAC) rejecting the appeal of the LTTE front in the UK to lift the ban on the LTTE.

Therefore, the LTTE is a banned organization in more than 30 other countries around the world, including the European Union.

The LTTE was initially banned in these countries for its atrocities and atrocities targeting civilians and democratically elected leaders, their involvement in organized crime, and other criminal activities affecting global and regional security.

The LTTE, which has been waging war in Sri Lanka for more than 30 years, was completely defeated in 2009 by then President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and the Armed Forces back then.
