Udaya Gammanpila, Minister of Energy has advised the public to use fuel sparingly as they have to save the limited foreign exchange available for essential commodities such as medicines and immunization vaccines.

“The bitter truth is that we are in a foreign exchange crisis. In the first six months of 2021, 18% of the import bill was spent on fuel. In the last six months, it is likely to be around 25%.”, he also said.
