It has been more than a year since the school system in our country was closed due to the COVID epidemic. Children have to be educated online. As a result of the teachers’ strike, children are now deprived of online education.

Even online education is not available to over 4 million children in our country. That is because not every child has the necessary technical facilities. Although the children studying in the main school system of the city got that opportunity due to the strength of the schools, the children in the village schools have to climb trees and rocks to find the telephone signals to go online.

In such a situation, the majority of parents in the country were hoping for the resumption of schools. Realizing this situation, the Ministry of Education had planned to start schools in September with a small number of children.

But given the current situation, the commencement of schools in September is uncertain. Education Minister Mr. G. L. Peiris also said that the re-emergence of the COVID epidemic had hampered the reopening of schools in September. Accordingly, the reopening of schools is being postponed indefinitely, leaving a huge question mark over the schooling of children in our country.
