Several showers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central and North Western provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts today, the Met Department said.
Heavy showers of more than 100 mm are expected in some parts of these areas.
Moderate to strong winds of 40-50 kmph are expected in the western slopes of the central hills, southern, northwestern and northwestern and northwestern provinces and in the Matale district.
In the sea areas off the coast from Galle to Pottuvil and from Chilaw to Kankesanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar the wind speed may increase up to 50-60 kmph at times.
Meteorologists urge the naval and fishing community to be vigilant in this regard.
