Government to gazette Domestic Service as a Dangerous Job

Nimal Siripala de Silva, Minister of Labor said that the proposal to gazette the domestic service in the list of dangerous jobs was submitted to Parliament today (04).

This was stated by Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva while tabling the motion to debate the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Bill.

Revealing that there was no law on domestic workers in Sri Lanka so far, Labor Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva pointed out that under the new proposal, the age of domestic workers could be increased from 16 to 18.

Domestic workers do not have ETFs and EPFs. Therefore, action will be taken this year to protect the rights of domestic workers, said Minister Nimal Siripala Silva.
