Popular actress Hyacinth Wijerathne has died in an accident while returning from a shoot in Nuwara Eliya, police spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said.
The van she was traveling in had overturned into a precipice in the Lindula area in Nuwara Eliya.
She had met with the accident while returning to Colombo after filming a teledrama.
As an actress, Wijeratne was a popular character among teledrama fans. Sometimes the character of the mother, the character of Walawwe Hamu Nona and the character of the mother-in-law were presented very realistically by Mrs. Hyacinth Wijerathne.
The driver of the van who was driving recklessly has been arrested by the Lindula Police.
