Today is Eid-al-Adha

Today is Eid-al-Adha, or Hajj, which is celebrated by Muslims around the world, with a focus on sacrifice and solidarity.

The Colombo Grand Mosque has announced that this year’s Hajj celebrations will be held under the Covid-19 regulations.

Its chief cleric, Mohamed Thaslin, said it had been instructed to hold a prayer service with the participation of a limited number of people.

President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has sent a message of congratulations to Muslims on the occasion of Hajj, a festival of spiritual liberation with divine intimacy.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has called on the people of Islam to pay special attention to the restrictions imposed by the Covid epidemic for the safety and social well-being of all.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has said in a statement that on this auspicious day, the people of the world can pray to Allah to save the people of the world from the plague of Covid within a short period of time by following the Islamic guidelines.

The Prime Minister said in a statement that the Covid epidemic would not be an obstacle to Hajj wishes for peace, brotherhood and equality.

Meanwhile, the slaughter of animals during the Hajj season has not been allowed in any mosque premises this time.
