The government has informed bus unions that bus fares will be reduced by 2% starting July 1, in line with the annual fare revision.
However, several unions, including the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association, have voiced strong opposition to the move. The National Transport Commission has clarified that the reduction will not affect the minimum or second-tier fare brackets.
The decision was discussed at a meeting held at the Ministry of Transport in Battaramulla, chaired by Minister Bimal Rathnayake.
