The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and the United National Party (UNP) held a special discussion today (19) regarding forming control in local government bodies where the opposition is expected to gain majority power in the 2025 Local Government Elections.
UNP Chairman Vajira Abeywardena stated that the discussion focused on key policy matters related to this collaboration.
To symbolize their agreement to establish joint control in these councils, the General Secretaries of both parties — Attorney-at-Law Thalatha Atukorale (UNP) and Ranjith Madduma Bandara (SJB) — signed a memorandum of understanding.
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, Vajira Abeywardena, Sagala Ratnayaka, Ruwan Wijewardene, Lakshman Kiriella, and Mujibur Rahuman were among those present at the event.
