On May 12, 2025, thousands of devoted Buddhists gathered at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy to pay homage in honor of the Vesak Full Moon Poya Day.
This sacred day commemorates the Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and passing away.
Throughout the day, religious observances including almsgiving, observance of precepts, and meditation are held at the Sri Dalada Maligawa and the four main devalayas. These spiritual activities are organized under the guidance of Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela.
The “Siri Dalada Waruna” Vesak Sil program is conducted at the historic Magul Maduwa, led by Most Venerable Uralewatte Dhamma Rakkhitha Thero of the Asgiriya Chapter. Religious programs are also underway at other major temples in Kandy, such as Tapovana Viharaya, Bahirawakanda Sri Maha Bodhi Viharaya, and Getambe Rajopavanaramaya.
