Former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia, Udayanga Weeratunga, has been arrested by the Mirihana Police on suspicion of assaulting a person.
He was taken into custody in connection with an incident involving the assault of a 66-year-old resident at his house on Cemetery Road, Thalapathpitiya, Nugegoda.
The police have received complaints that the assault occurred due to a boundary dispute. The injured individual, who was reportedly struck with a water pipe, has been admitted to Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital for in-patient treatment.
