The Israeli National Security Council has today (23) informed the Israeli nationals in Sri Lanka to leave several southern tourist areas of Sri Lanka immediately due to the threat of a terrorist attack.
Accordingly, the Israeli National Security Council has advised its citizens in Galle, Hikkaduwa, Ahangama and Weligama areas of Sri Lanka to leave immediately, saying that there are terrorist threats.
The American Embassy and the Israeli National Security Council had previously issued this warning in the vicinity of Arugam Bay.
Regarding the security of Arugam bay, Acting Inspector General of Police Mr. Priyantha Weerasuriya has mentioned that the security of all foreigners in the country has been confirmed and all embassies have been informed in this regard.
Those living in these areas were asked to either go to the high security city of Colombo or to leave Sri Lanka and go to another country.
Israel’s National Security Council announced that the security threat level has been raised to level 3 in other areas of Sri Lanka.
Israelis planning to visit the country have been advised to postpone their trips unless essential.
These warnings have been issued in view of the recent information that there is a terrorist threat to the tourist areas and beaches in these areas.
Accordingly, the threat level in these areas has been raised to level 4.
Meanwhile, Australia later warned that terrorist attacks may occur in areas where foreigners and tourists hang out in Sri Lanka.
Australia said in a travel advisory issued today that there is a risk of terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka.
