Due to adverse weather conditions with heavy rains, 12 districts across the country have been affected, impacting 134,484 individuals from 34,492 families.
The National Disaster Management Center reports that 6,963 individuals from 1,753 families are currently housed in 81 safety centers.
A total of 69 Divisional Secretariats have been affected by the adverse weather, with the tri-forces and the police providing assistance in rescue and relief operations for the victims.
So far, three people have lost their lives, and two others have been injured due to the disaster.
A total of 240 houses have been partially damaged, and 29 business premises have suffered losses due to the rain.
This disaster began on the 8th and continued through this morning, impacting people due to floods and landslides caused by the rain.
Meanwhile, due to the bad weather, schools in the Colombo Education Zone have been closed today. Schools in the Kolonnawa and Kaduwela Divisional Secretariat areas, as well as Gampaha and Kelaniya zones, will remain closed today (14) and tomorrow (15), as decided by education authorities.
The National Building Research Organization has issued landslide warnings for Colombo, Galle, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kegalle, Kurunegala, Nuwara Eliya, and Ratnapura districts.
Additionally, the Department of Irrigation warns that the water levels in the Nilwala, Gin, Kuda, and Kelani rivers are rising, increasing the risk of flooding in surrounding areas.
The water levels in major reservoirs across the country have also risen.
