    75th Army Anniversary Celebrated with Pride

    10 October 2024, marks the 75th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army, the ‘protector of the nation,’ which played a pivotal role in bringing sustainable peace to the motherland by ending more than three decades of war that plagued Sri Lanka. To commemorate this historic occasion, a ceremony was held today at the Panagoda Army Cantonment under the guidance of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu.

    Major General Lanka Amarapala served as the Commanding Officer of this year’s Army Day Parade, with the participation of 75 Officers and 626 Other Ranks, representing all regiments of the Sri Lanka Army. Adding a distinctive touch to the event, the prestigious 75th Army Commemoration Medal was awarded to 35 Officers and 25 Other Ranks, representing all Army Regiments. Additionally, the Commander of the Army presented Commander’s Commendation Medals to 9 Army personnel who made significant contributions to the pride and honour of the Army.

    During his address, the Commander of the Army paid heartfelt tribute to former Army Commanders, both late and retired, as well as to the heroic soldiers who have served, are currently serving, and those who have passed away. He also extended his appreciation to the Officers, Other Ranks, civil staff members and their families for their immense sacrifices. Furthermore, the Commander reaffirmed the necessity of unwavering dedication from all Army personnel to work for the betterment of the nation in the years to come. He also highlighted that the vital role of the armed forces in safeguarding the well-being of all Sri Lankans must always remain at the heart of their commitment and service.
