Election observers say that illegal campaigns using social media have increased in connection with the presidential election this year.
Mr. Rohana Hettiarachchi, the Executive Director of the PAFFREL Organization, said that 812 complaints have been reported in connection with the presidential election.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Response Forum requests the people to be careful when sharing posts on social media during the presidential election.
Its senior information security engineer Mr. Charuka Damunupola said that people should be more careful about insulting posts.
He also mentioned that by exchanging such posts posted through various fake accounts, you can be caught in the offense under the election law.
Mr. Charuka Damunupola said that steps have been taken to forward all complaints received regarding such incidents to the Criminal Investigation Department.
