The Minister of Transport, Highways and Mass Media, Mr. Bandula Gunawardena says that the national programs needed by the country to strengthen the country economically have now been made a law.
The minister further said that due to the many decrees passed in the Parliament recently, Sri Lanka is on the path of development.
The minister made these comments while attending a press conference held in Kandy yesterday afternoon (06) after observing the development activities taking place in the region including the Gatamba flyover which is building with the help of the Hungarian government.
The minister said that a national program has been made into a law as never before in the history of this country. He also said that the Central Bank Act has suspended the printing of money for price stabilization.
He also mentioned that the government has not been able to borrow at interest rates due to the Debt Control Act passed by the parliament.
Also, the minister said that the budget could not be prepared as required by the adoption of the Public Financial Management Act, and he also said that it was not possible to change the economic policies as required due to the Economic Transformation Act.
Accordingly, he pointed out that the budget can be prepared with the contribution of the scholars of the budget committee.
Also, he said that due to the anti-corruption act passed in the parliament, it will be possible to catch thieves in the country, and he mentioned that a national program has never been made into a law before.
The minister also said that the country’s future development path has been made a law according to international standards to recover the country from economic recession.
He said that Sri Lanka has recently signed several crucial agreements and also said that an agreement has been reached with the International Monetary Fund on the Extended Credit Agreement.
Minister Bandula Gunawardena further said that there are agreements signed with the Paris Fair Group and China and India regarding debt repayment.
