Yesterday (30), a pipe of a machine that was pumping concrete mixture into the four-storied building under construction at the Monaragala District Hospital exploded and the concrete mixture broke the roof of a hospital ward where mothers are staying with newborns and fell on the beds.
According to the Monaragala Hospital Police, three mothers, five infants and a family health worker were injured when the ceiling of Ward 15 of the hospital broke and the concrete mixture fell on them.
The accident happened around 10.00 am and in ward 15, there are mothers and children with their children after giving birth.
The employees and doctors at the hospital acted immediately and sent the babies and mothers who were bathed in concrete for help.
Hospital sources say that their condition is not serious.
Other mothers and babies in the ward have been transferred to another ward.
