According to the Consumer Service Authority, starting next week, a control price will be implemented for bread if a 450-gram loaf is not sold at 130 rupees.
The authority has also stated that bakery shops failing to comply can be fined 1 lakh rupees, while companies or organizations can face fines ranging from 5 lakh to 50 lakh rupees.
On February 2nd, the Consumer Affairs Authority issued a gazette notice specifying the required weight for a loaf of bread. The notice declared that a loaf must weigh at least 450 grams, and a half loaf must weigh at least 225 grams.
Additionally, the All Ceylon Bakeries Association announced a reduction of 10 rupees in the price of a 450-gram loaf of bread, effective from midnight last Friday.
