In the emergency cabinet meeting convened by the President today, a decision has been taken regarding the Supreme Court’s order preventing Mr. Deshbandu Tennakoon from serving as the Inspector General of Police.
It is to study the legal matters in depth and announce the response of the cabinet in the next two days.
The Supreme Court had today issued an interim order preventing Mr. Deshbandu Tennakoon from working as the Inspector General of Police.
The Supreme Court has ordered the President to take steps to nominate a suitable person in accordance with the law for the post of Inspector General of Police during the period in which this interim order is in effect.
These orders were announced by a three-member Supreme Court bench consisting of Mr. Yasantha Kodagoda, Mr. Achala Wengappuli and Mr. Mahinda Samayawardena.
Announcing the verdicts, the chairman of the three-judge bench, Mr. Justice Yasantha Kodagoda, stated that the petitioners have succeeded in establishing a strong case before the court in this petition hearing.
Better late than never ever!
Hopefully the decision of the cabinet be parallel to the decision of the Honourable judges of the supreme judiciary. As I feel if it’s contrary — it’s a contempt .
