In response to a letter from the Bar Association of Sri Lanka about appointing the Attorney General based on seniority, President’s Secretary Saman Ekanayake clarified that there is no Constitutional requirement to appoint the most senior officer from the AG’s Department based on seniority and it has not been the practice in the past.
The President’s Secretary has further informed that the BASL should not advocate for a single candidate among other qualified individuals for the post of Attorney General.
