    Up to LKR 25000 allowance for Paddy farmers who produce their own Organic Fertilizer

    The Cabinet has approved an allowance of Rs. 12,500 per hectare for paddy farmers who produce organic fertilizer and use it for their own farming.

    This allowance is available only for a maximum of 2 hectares (5 acres).

    Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Minister of Agriculture has submitted this proposal to the Cabinet to encourage farmers to produce and use fertilizer for paddy cultivation for the 2021/2022 Maha season.

    The proposal approved by the Cabinet was as follows:

    The Ministry of Agriculture has planned a program to meet the requirement of organic fertilizer for paddy cultivation of about 800,000 hectares for the Maha season 2021/2022. Under this, necessary steps have already been taken to direct farmers to produce quality organic fertilizer, mainly under the guidance of the Department of Agrarian Development, and to increase the quantity of organic fertilizer produced by licensed manufacturers.

    Accordingly, to encourage farmers to produce organic fertilizer, farmers who produce organic fertilizer and use it for their own farming will be given 12,500 / – per hectare not exceeding a maximum of 02 hectares (05 acres).

    The proposal was made by Hon. Minister of Agriculture, to proceed with the related activities, was approved by the Cabinet.
