“SriLankan Airlines is not for sale at all”

The Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Mr. Nimal Siripala de Silva stated that SriLankan Airlines will not be sold at all and will only be restructured.

According to the law, only 49% of the shares of SriLankan Airlines can be given to another company, however, no suitable investor has come forward so far.

“We are not going to sell SriLankan Airlines except to restructure it. According to the law of Sri Lanka, only 49% of the shares of SriLankan Airlines can be given to another company. But there is minimal interest in the world for that. Only 06 people appeared for it. We didn’t find anyone worthy among them. Even if it is possible to provide that opportunity for a Sri Lankan entrepreneur, the ability has to be proven.”

Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva mentioned this while joining the news conference held at the Presidential Media Center yesterday (03).
