Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe says that within the next 5 decades, it is predicted that there will be an increase in rain in the wet regions, and that there will be no rain in the dry regions.
He emphasizes that solutions that can be implemented in Sri Lanka in accordance with the changing weather should be found and implemented from now on.
The President also emphasized the need to create a new transformation in the economic, social, educational and agricultural fields in a way that suits the changing world.
President Ranil Wickramasinghe mentioned this while attending the Mannar District Development Committee meeting held yesterday (16) at the Mannar District Secretariat.
Meanwhile, the President also said that Madu pilgrims will be provided with the necessary facilities to engage in their pilgrimage activities without any hindrance.
Pointing out that the road to Madu church and the road to Sri Pada is for pilgrims, the President said that he does not see it as a fair thing to arrest and fine those pilgrims.
The President also informed the Madu pilgrims to immediately inform the presidential office if they are arrested again in the future.
The President also pointed out the need for everyone to discuss and find solutions to problems that have arisen.
The President instructed the Army to immediately repair the existing Madu road on both sides for the convenience of the pilgrims coming to the Madu Church and informed that a representative of the Bishop of Mannar, the Department of Forest Conservation, the Road Development Authority and the Sri Lanka Police would be contacted for the same.
The President further instructed to complete these purification activities before the upcoming annual festival at the Madu Church.
Political representatives of the area as well as government officials were present for this district development committee meeting which was convened for the purpose of looking into the future development plans of the Mannar district.
The problems that have arisen in all areas including health, education and irrigation in the district were presented directly to the President and the President provided solutions to many of these problems at that time.
The president also paid attention to the hospital director’s request to provide a CT scan machine, which has been in short supply for a long time, to the Mannar hospital and said that it will be fulfilled promptly.
President Ranil Wickramasinghe, who commented on this, further mentioned that the lost development will be given back to the Mannar district and the program will be started this year.
