According to Prisons Commissioner General Thushara Upuldeniya, the remaining quarters and inmates’ dormitory facilities in Bogambara Dumbara Prison located in Pallakele will be expanded this year.
He said that after the completion of the development work, 1191 inmates can stay in the prison and the development work of the prison will be done at the cost of 250 million rupees.
The improvement of residential facilities in Bogambara Dumbara Prison was discussed in the last Kandy District Coordinating Committee meeting and the Commissioner General has given a written notice to the committee stating the facts.
He has further explained that the expansion of the residential facilities of the inmates and officers of the prison will be done under this.
The committee meeting was held yesterday at Kandy district secretary’s office on the call of Kandy district secretary Mr. Chandana Tennakoon under the chairmanship of Central Province Governor lawyer Lalith U. Gamage and district coordination committee chairman parliament member Gunathilaka Rajapakse.
