The Colombo High Court has today ordered the release of five persons, including the former Governor of the Central Bank, Mr. Ajith Nivard Cabraal.

It is in relation to the case assigned by the Bribery Commission on the allegations that the government suffered a loss of 1.84 billion rupees by investing in Greek bonds in 2012.

The indictment against the defendants was signed on March 26.

At that time, there had been protests that a director general had not been appointed under the new anti-corruption act.

Thus, the High Court Judge said that the validity of the relevant charge sheet has been challenged before the law, so the delivery of the indictment will be refused.

Under this situation, it was decided to release the accused.
