Reservoirs fill up – Further risk of flooding

It is reported that the water level in the main reservoirs of the island has risen with the current high rainfall.

Director of Irrigation (Hydrology) Engineer SPC Sugeeshwara Bandara says that the water level in the main reservoirs has risen to 80%.

Deduruoya Reservoir in Kurunegala District, Rajanganaya and Angamuwa Reservoirs in Anuradhapura District, and several reservoirs in Hambantota and Matara Districts have started to overflow.

Also, due to excessive rainfall of about 150 mm, a sudden flood may occur.

Therefore, the Irrigation Department has requested the people living in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, and Sabaragamuwa districts to inquire.

Therefore, the authorities request the people living in the above areas to be vigilant in case of sudden floods.
