The Ministry of Power and Energy says that more than 475,000 people have been affected by power outages due to strong winds in many parts of the country.
The strong winds in Puttalam, Kurunegala, Kegalle, Gampaha and Galle districts have caused severe power outages.
The Met Department predicts heavy showers of more than 100 mm in some parts of the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts today.
Meteorologists have forecast strong winds of up to 60 kilometers per hour on the western slopes of the central hills and up to 50 kilometers per hour in the northern, north-central, north-western and southern provinces, the Trincomalee district and the western coastal areas.
