The Director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has arrested an Agriculture Director and an Agriculture Instructor in connection with the re-export of 23 containers of arecanuts worth about Rs. 300 million imported from Indonesia to Sri Lanka.

CID spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana stated that the two have been arrested by the CID for forging documents including quarantine certificates for the export of containers imported from Indonesia without a physical examination.

These containers were imported to Sri Lanka in August, September and October last year.

The complaint has been lodged with the CID by the Customs Department, said Ajith Rohana.

Accordingly, an Assistant Superintendent of Customs was arrested on April 12 during the preliminary investigation.
