Almost Half of the Provided Telephone Numbers of the Public Services are not Working

A survey has revealed that almost half of the phone numbers of government service providers, which have been opened for the people in government institutions, are not working.

This has been revealed in a survey conducted by the Peradeniya University’s Department of Economics and Statistics covering the entire island.

It has been revealed that 49% of the phone numbers opened for government services are inactive.

This survey has been done by looking at the phone numbers of village officers, development officers and development officers, which are presented on the official web pages of each divisional secretariat in the island.

Are the relevant phone numbers in use? Does the phone answer when called? Were considered here.

It has been revealed that 286 of the 589 phone numbers surveyed are non-working numbers.

Even though the phone numbers are working, the percentage of people who do not answer is 22%.

The telephone answering rate is 29%.

In addition, landline numbers of 98 local councils, 23 metropolitan councils and 36 municipal councils have also been used for this study.

Mr. Wasantha Athukorala, Professor of the Department of Economics and Statistics of the University of Peradeniya, points out that the results of the survey can provide an understanding of the existing inefficiency in public service.
