Is Keheliya Really Sick? – A Special Investigation is Underway

The court has ordered the appointment of a medical board of 9 specialists to conduct an investigation into the condition of former health minister Keheliya Rambukwella, who is being remanded and is being treated at the prison hospital.

It is reported that the Maligakanda Magistrate has given this order to the Director General of Health Services.

Former Minister of Health Mr. Keheliya Rambukwella had informed that he would not be able to appear in court due to his illness.

The Magistrate accepted a request made by Deputy Solicitor General Miss Lakmini Girihagama through a motion to immediately conduct an investigation regarding the occurrence of medical conditions that made him cannot be presented to the court.

The Magistrate has ordered the Director General of Health Services to include doctors with expertise in heart diseases, orthopedic diseases, and lung diseases in the expert medical panel that is conducting investigations regarding Keheliya Rambukwella’s medical conditions.

Keheliya Rambukwella was arrested and remanded as the 08th suspect of the secret police’s investigation regarding fraud of crores of rupees by importing substandard antibody vaccine called ‘Immunoglobin’ which is used for neurological patients by preparing fake documents from the loan money given under the Indian loan scheme and distributing it to the government hospitals in Sri Lanka and putting the patient’s life in an unsafe situation.

Although he was supposed to appear before the court on the 15th, a report from the doctor of the prison hospital was submitted informing that he is in such an ill condition that he cannot appear before the court between the 15th and the 22nd and the case was heard without Mr. Keheliya Rambukwella.

The Magistrate has ordered the Director General of Health Services to take steps to submit a report of the investigation regarding Rambukwella’s medical condition to the court by the 26th of February.
