Several Parliamentary Committees are Appointed – Harsha returns to the Same Position

The composition of five crucial parliamentary committees has been unveiled, with Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana tabling the lists of appointed Members of Parliament (MPs) earlier today (Feb. 09). These appointments were made in accordance with motions passed by Parliament during its Fifth Session of the Ninth Parliament, which commenced on Feb. 07 under the ceremonial inauguration by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The newly appointed committees include the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Transport and Highways, the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Tourism and Lands, the Committee on Parliamentary Business, the Committee on Public Accounts, and the Committee on Ways and Means.

Committee on Parliamentary Business

The Committee on Parliamentary Business, in line with Standing Order 115 of Parliament and the motion passed by the House, comprises key figures such as the Speaker as Chair, the Deputy Speaker, the Deputy Chairperson of Committees, the Leader of the House of Parliament, the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, the Chief Government Whip, and the Chief Opposition Whip. This committee is tasked with overseeing and managing the legislative agenda and parliamentary proceedings.
