Mr. Sajith Premadasa, the leader of the opposition, has told the representatives of the International Monetary Fund that the current government has excessively increased many types of taxes, including VAT, giving a heavy tax burden to the people, saying that it is the orders of the International Monetary Fund.
The opposition leader Mr. Sajith Premadasa has also pointed out here with evidence, facts and data that the general public, pregnant mothers, children, middle-class society, government employees and other people from many fields have become helpless.
He said this when a special meeting between a group of representatives of the International Monetary Fund and Mr. Sajith Premadasa took place at the opposition leader’s office yesterday (18) afternoon.
Peter Brewer, the International Monetary Fund’s Senior Operations Manager, and Sarwat Jahan, the Resident Representative, were present at this meeting.
The opposition leader said that under a Samagi Jana Balawega government, the current government is expected to revise the unilateral agreement with the IMF and enter into an important, populist agreement for the general public.
Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa pointed out that Samagi Jana Balawega has a formal program for that.
Also, the leader pointed out that the people who have been helpless due to the economic policies of the current government, and to free the people from that helplessness and to rescue the country from the current bankruptcy and to rescue the people who are suffering and helpless, Samagi Jana Balawegaya is working from the opposition, and there is a formal plan to work as soon as an SJB government comes to power.
