The Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, has instructed the officials to immediately simplify and expand the activities related to providing Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) to all those above 18 years of age.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Public Administration has been instructed to prepare necessary arrangements to open a separate counter for this purpose in all the Divisional Secretariats.

Apart from that, the Minister said that the related activities related to the opening of counters should also be looked into in places such as government banks, the Department of Registration of Persons, the Department of Motor Transport.

The minister pointed out that an efficient process is expected here as well, as was done earlier in the issuance of QR codes related to getting fuel.

In particular, the focus was on further shortening the online registration application form and shortening the time of about five days to get the number.

Accordingly, the related legal measures are to be taken by the public administration and local revenue officials.

The minister said this in a discussion held with officials of the Inland Revenue Department, State Administration and Sri Lanka Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) to make the provision of TIN efficient.
