Inland Revenue Commissioner General Sepalika Chandrasekara says that the Inland Revenue Department has decided to appoint a committee to search for businessmen who fail to pay taxes properly.
She said that the relevant committee will look into the reasons for the non-payment of taxes by the businessmen.
Businessmen who are currently registered but do not pay tax will be looked into in that program.
Meanwhile, the Inland Revenue Commissioner General said that all those above 18 years of age who earn more than 100,000 rupees per month have started opening their tax files.
She mentioned that those earning more than Rs 12 lakh per annum are liable to pay tax.
She also mentioned that it is mandatory for other people to get Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN).
