India to Provide Old Locomotives Free for Sri Lanka While They Run Electric Trains

The Railway Department says that the Government of India will provide 20 locomotives for free.

Mr. H.M.K.W.Bandara, General Manager of Railways stated that it has been decided to provide 20 decommissioned diesel engines to Sri Lanka along with the electrification of India’s railway system.

A team of railway department experts who visited India recently checked whether they can be run on the railways of this country.

Accordingly, he said that two locomotives are planned to be imported to Sri Lanka in February.
