It is reported that another inmate in the Matara prison who was being treated in the hospital with meningitis symptoms has died.
The deceased is a 53-year-old resident of Walasmulla area.
He died while undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
This is the second death from meningitis in Matara prison.
After 17 inmates fell ill in Matara prison, the officials of the prison department had taken steps to implement strict health measures in the prison.
One of them had previously died of suspected meningitis.
