With the easing of import restrictions on sanitary and tile products, the prices of related products are falling rapidly, says the Tile and Sanitary Products Importers Association.
Its secretary Mr. Shamindra Gunasekara said that due to this situation, there has been a revival in the construction industry.
“The import of tiles and sanitary ware was suspended for three and a half years. Import restrictions were imposed with Covid. After three and a half years, the government relaxed the import restrictions last month and gave us the opportunity to import again. I take this opportunity to thank the government. Imports have started again in the last month.
Prices are coming down rapidly in tiles and sanitary ware. Demand is increasing rapidly. This is a very good sign for the construction sector as well.”
Mr. Shamindra Gunasekara requested the government that if further tax is imposed on this sector, the price of a tile will increase by 100 rupees again.
