Studies at Kelaniya University have been temporarily suspended.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya said in a statement that the University of Kelaniya will be closed today (04) from 2 pm until further notice, except for the Faculty of Medicine.
All the students have been informed that all the residential students should vacate their hostels before 5 am tomorrow (05).
Also, until further notice, students are prohibited from entering the campuses of Kelaniya University including the Dalugama campus and all internal and external hostels of the university.
This move was triggered by an incident where a security officer working in the security department of the University of Kelaniya was abducted while he was sleeping in the lounge, held, beaten and tied to the entrance gate of the student centre.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya further informed in his announcement that disciplinary measures were taken in relation to the incident and this step was taken to restore peace between the non-academic staff and the students.
