A Committee Meets to Hear About The ‘Undisciplined Behavior’ of 9 MPs

The Committee on Parliamentary Ethics and Privileges is scheduled to meet for three consecutive days to hear six petitions filed regarding the disturbing behavior of nine MPs in Parliament.

The committee has scheduled a meeting on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (Nov. 27, 28, 29) to consider the matter as a ‘special priority’ as instructed by the Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.

Accordingly, the incident between Minister of State Diana Gamage and Member of Parliament Sujith Sanjaya, the incident where Member of Parliament Chaminda Wijesiri allegedly threatened the Assistant Secretary General, the complaint filed against State Minister Anuradha Jayaratne, the complaint filed by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa against State Minister Sanath Nishantha, along with the complaint filed against Premadasa, Nishantha and Nalin Bandara, the complaint filed against Minister Ali Sabri is also to be considered here.

The speaker informed the committee to expedite the investigation of the above mentioned incidents and to submit a report in this regard before finalizing the 2024 budget document.
