The Minister of Education Dr. Susil Premajayantha revealed in Parliament today about a plan to hold the GCE O/L exam in grade10.

The minister emphasized that at the age of 17, children can appear for the advanced level examination accordingly.

Mr. Susil Premjayantha also said that children who have completed 4 years of age must be admitted to pre-school.

He said that the related proposal is to be brought to the Parliament.

“We have proposed to start Pre Primary. Children who reach the age of 4 must go to Pre-Primary. If someone cannot send them free of charge, in the system we introduce, we have enough space for them in the nearest school. There are 4,000 schools with less than 200 children. There are 2,900 schools with less than 100 children. We can easily allow them to do free pre-primary education at the rural level. By now, the National Institute of Education has completed the program. The existing and the new wardens are trained. They are introduced to a certificate course, a diploma course and up to graduation. They are given some time to complete this. With this introduction, we are trying to bring the current O/L exam from 11 to 10. Then “If you count from Age 4, a child will be writing the GCE O/L at 15 years old. At 17, he will be writing the GCE A/L. Then the aging on education will slow down.” Mr. Susil Premajayantha said in Parliament.
