PEMEX, Mexico’s state oil company, says it has managed to contain a large fire on the Gulf of Mexico.
Orange flames resembling lava erupting from the surface of the Mexican Sea erupted from an eye-shaped spot, leading to what became known on social media as ‘fire eyes’.
In a statement, PEMEX said the fire was caused by a gas leak in an underwater pipeline.
The blaze, which broke out near an oil refinery, was extinguished at 10:45 a.m. local time, and no injuries or injuries were reported.
